Whether your project is simple or ambitious, understated or bold, an architect can transform it from ordinary into something exceptional.
Working with an architect
Many people can alter a building. An architect brings the creativity, technical expertise and strategic thinking needed to maximise its potential. We create spaces that are functional, beautiful and built to last.
Starting a building project can feel daunting, whether it is a home extension, renovation or new build. Working with an architect gives you the reassurance of a qualified professional who is trained to guide projects from concept to completion with integrity, care and attention to detail.
We believe in making the most of what already exists before turning to more costly and carbon-intensive solutions such as extensions or new-build development. Often, the space you need is already there, waiting to be unlocked through thoughtful design. By bringing fresh ideas, experience and a new perspective, we help clients do more with less by transforming existing spaces to work better for modern living.
At Studio Ellis + Co, we combine creative thinking with practical experience to deliver thoughtful, client-led design. From early feasibility studies and planning advice through to detailed design and construction, we help turn ideas into carefully crafted spaces that add lasting value to your home and everyday life.
All projects, big or small, start with a "hello", so if you have a project in mind, get in touch.
Our process for delivering inspiring projects
SE+C Appointed from this point
1. "Hello"
Call us, for a no obligation conversation about your project. If we can help, we will arrange to meet you at a time convenient to you
2. Initial consultation
We will meet you at your home to discuss project goals, budget constraints, design quality and project timeline expectations.
We will provide a clear fee proposal detailing all services required for your project. We do not aim to be the cheapest option nor be prohibitly expensive. Our fees will always reflect the level of service and detail required to deliver the project properly.
3. Brief
At this stage, we work closely with you to refine the brief and analyse the site. By balancing project goals, site constraints and regulatory requirements, we develop clear strategies that maximise potential and establish a strong foundation for the project.
We will also identify any need for input from other consultants, such as Structural Engineers and assist you with appointing them if required.
4. Concept design
This where it gets exciting! We will explore the concept with you, through modelling, sketches and design workshops. At the end of this stage you will have a very good idea of what your new home looks and feels like.
5. Submitting the design
Once your concept is agreed and your team has signed it off, we can progress the design to the submission stage of the project. This involves developing the key information about the project that shows compliance with the National Planning Policy and submitting the project for planning permission.
6. Developing the design
This technical and detailed phase is developed alongside the wider team, including engineers and sometimes a contractor, to ensure the concept can become a reality through the build stage. An extremely thorough approach is required to fully co-ordinate all aspects of the design, so your new home works functionally, is compliant and is still inline with the original concept. At this point a detailed cost plan can be developed by a cost consultant.
At the end of this stage we can also assist with developing a tender for the project and advise on procurement route. The best route can vary depending on project, but we often advise a traditional procurement owing to the bespoke nature of our design and need to ensure the intended quality is delivered.
7. Build
By the time we go to site to build, we like to be in a position where we have accuracy around the spend, and that the majority of the key decisions are made. This means we can start with a realistic programme target end date, assisting things like moving and cash flow during the build phase. It's an exciting milestone to begin the build process.
Our typical services would include answering contractor queries and helping to resolve any issues which arise. We can also offer project management services to ensure there is no gaps between the vision and delivery.
8. Enjoy your new home
Once your house is complete we supervise the defects period as part of our normal architectural service. We ensure any issues or operational teething problems are dealt with by the build team.
We will also like drop in to say hello, to see how you enjoy living in your new home. We like to learn and evolve with each project, so understanding from you about what we have successfully delivered, or what we can help to deliver better is an important and appreciated part of the process.
